Head of Group Engineering and Innovation Karen Adams is recognised at the CeeD awards
We’re pleased to share that our Head of Group Engineering and Innovation Karen Adams was shortlisted as a finalist for the CeeD Awards in the operational excellence category.
On 2 March, Karen Adams attended the Centre for Engineering, Education and Development (CeeD) awards in Glasgow, Scotland.
This followed the announcement that she had been shortlisted for an award in the operational excellence (OE) category for her work in driving the OE agenda during her time at JFD.
Recently appointed Head of Group Engineering and Innovation within James Fisher’s business excellence function, Karen works to enhance teamwork across the Group, standardise processes and drive the adoption of best practices.
Prior to taking on this role Karen worked at JFD for seven and a half years, where she was responsible for owning and delivering the engineering and OE agenda for the company. It is this that landed her the CeeD award nomination, in addition to her work promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives in the local community through her relationship with the charity SmartSTEMs.
This is not the first time Karen has been put forward for a CeeD award. In 2019, she was the organisation’s inaugural ‘Woman in Industry’, and James Fisher is proud to see that her work driving OE is once again being recognised.
Karen says:
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with JFD, in particular having the opportunity to drive the OE agenda over the past four years. I have always appreciated the space I was allowed to shape and integrate the ‘new’ area of expertise in JFD, and I was constantly in awe of the people I got to work with to the deliver this work. The truth is I learned such a lot in this time and it has shaped me in to the professional I am today.
I’ve only been afforded the amazing opportunities I have because of the field I pursued and the opportunities it affords. Engineering teaches you to approach obstacles without being overwhelmed and, while it’s not without its challenges, I love and am passionate about the industry I work in. If there’s one lesson I’d like to impart to those interested in pursuing a career in engineering, it’s that if I can do it, anyone can.
Giovanni Corbetta, Head of Business Excellence at James Fisher and Sons plc, says:
It’s no surprise to see Karen get recognised with this nomination. What she managed to achieve at JFD in such a short time speaks volumes about her commitment to her work and operational excellence as a whole. I look forward to seeing her apply that same commitment to the Group’s business excellence function, and am glad to have her on the team during these exciting next steps towards becoming a simpler, more efficient company.
