James Fisher demonstrates commitment to talent development with roll out of Lean Six Sigma training programme
James Fisher has begun rolling out a new Lean Six Sigma training programme, equipping its employees with the skills required to become subject matter experts on continuous improvement.
The first two cohorts of the new James Fisher Lean Six Sigma programme have officially completed their training and as newly qualified ‘green belts’ are now ready to put their knowledge to use by sharing good practices with their colleagues.
The programme, which was organised by the Group’s Business Excellence team, focuses on business performance improvements through the elimination of resource waste and defects, as well as equipping employees with the skills required to become subject matter experts on continuous improvement at James Fisher.
The week-long programme, headed up by Operational Lean Leader and Lean Six Sigma Programme Coordinator Paula Ruiz (herself a ‘black belt’), is also a means of promoting inter-Group connections, with employees interacting from across divisions to discuss their thoughts on business practices and innovations.
Paula Ruiz, Operational Lean Leader and Lean Six Sigma Programme Coordinator, says:
It’s been great to see people from across the Group get together to create a network of people passionate about continuous improvement and to see yet another tangible way in which James Fisher promotes talent development.
Ray Parfitt, Group Head of Lean, says:
It is so encouraging to witness people willing to take a week out of their busy working schedules to focus on learning new continual improvement skills that will help them to be part of the improvement journey here at James Fisher.
Importantly, the training brings together teams from the Energy, Defence and Maritime Transport Divisions, to form networks and friendships. This approach shows the willingness of the Group to invest in developing our people so that they can play a vital role in shaping the future of a continually improving, customer-focused James Fisher.
We in the Business Excellence team would like to pass on our congratulations to the first of our green belts on their successful completion of the training phase and for passing the final exam.
In order to deliver the best possible results to our customers, we are committed to investing in our people and continuing our work internally to improve efficiency across the entire James Fisher Group. The green belts training programme is planned to continue with more cohorts to follow in future. You can read testimonials from some of our current green belts below:
Bethan Mitchell, Engineering and Operations Coordinator at JFD, says:
I thoroughly enjoyed the course, so thank you very much! I honestly couldn’t recommend the coursework and the way it was presented enough – it was done exceptionally well!
Yazeed Mujahed, Senior Tendering and Proposal Engineer at JF Subtech, says:
The training and workshop were brilliant!
